India UN Development Partnership Collaborating for the Strengthening the EMTCT Plus Strategy within Maternal and Child Health Services
The India-UN Development Partnership Fund is a dedicated facility with the United Nations Fund which focuses on South-South Cooperation, a flagship initiative channeled through the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).
Through a special project implemented by PAHO, the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, provides a US$1 million, to support the “Strengthening of the EMTCT Strategy within Maternal and Child Health Services in CARICOM Member States. The purpose of the project is to scale-up and expand the primary prevention and treatment services for EMTCT Plus, addressing critical programmatic gaps, while reinforcing leadership for the strategy within Maternal and Child Health. This is accomplished through capacity building and South-South Cooperation which includes the sharing of lessons learned and experiences among Member States.
Key partners of the project include the Caribbean Med Lab Foundation and PANCAP that works collaboratively with PAHO/WHO in support of the EMTCT Strategy.
The Elimination of the Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis B (EMTCT Plus) is an initiative of PAHO/WHO for the Americas that is included in the wider elimination initiative. Since 2015, thirteen (13) countries and territories in the Caribbean have been validated by WHO as achieving the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B or HIV only.
