
India UN Development Partnership Collaborating for the Strengthening the EMTCT Strategy within Maternal and Child Health Services

Since 2015, countries in the Caribbean were validated for the EMTCT of HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B. As of June 2026, (13) thirteen countries in the Caribbean have been validated by WHO as achieving the mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B or HIV only.
In order to maintain the EMTCT gains in the Caribbean, while supporting other Member States to Advance, The project, “Strengthening the EMTCT Strategy within Maternal and Child Health Services in CARICOM Member States,” is the strengthening the primary prevention and treatment services for EMTCT, addressing critical programmatic, gaps while reinforcing leadership within Maternal and Child Health. through capacity building and the sharing of lessons learned and experiences,
The project which provides a US$1 million grant from the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, is a flagship initiative of South-South Cooperation channeled through the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) for which PAHO/WHO is the implementing agency. Key partners of the project include the Caribbean MedLab Foundation and PANCAP that works collaboratively with the Member States through the various PAHO Country Offices.
