the COVID-19 vaccine.
Myth: The side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine are worse for people living with HIV.
Fact: There is no evidence that people living with HIV have a higher rate of side effects after vaccination or unusual side effects.
Myth: The COVID-19 vaccine will interact negatively with my HIV medication.
Fact: There is no evidence that COVID-19 vaccines interfere with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV or with antiretroviral therapy (ART) to treat HIV.
Myth: The COVID-19 vaccine is the only protection I need.
FACT: In addition to getting the COVID-19 vaccine, it is important to continue your HIV treatment and to follow your health care provider’s advice. This is the best way to keep your immune system healthy.
Myth: I don't need the COVID-19 vaccine because my HIV medication keeps my immune system healthy.
Fact: At this time there are no HIV medicines approved to treat COVID-19. People living with HIV should not switch their HIV medicine in an attempt to prevent or treat COVID-19.
Myth: Once I get vaccinated, I don't have to worry about getting COVID.
Fact: Even after vaccination, you can still get COVID-19, but your symptoms may be less severe. You should continue to take preventative measures, such as wearing a mask, sanitising regularly and maintaining social distance.
