Global Fund Board elects New Chair and Vice Chair



Geneva, Switzerland-- The Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) unanimously elected Mr. Norbert Hauser of Germany as Board Chair and Ms Aida Kurtovic of Bosnia and Herzegovina as Vice Chair at the start of the 33rd Meeting of the Board which began on 31 March in Geneva, Switzerland.


Mr. Norbert Hauser was presented by Mr. Brian Brink Chair of the Donor Group as their consensus candidate.  Mr. Hauser served as Vice President of the Bundesrechnungshof/Supreme Audit Institution of Germany until 2011.  He was a member of the High-Level Independent Review Panel on Fiduciary Controls and Oversight Mechanisms of the Global Fund.  He served as Interim Inspector General for the Global Fund.


Ms Aida Kurtovic was presented by Ms Loretta Wong, Vice Chair of the Implementer Group as their consensus candidate.  Ms Kurtovic is the Executive Director of Partnerships in Health, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  She served as Co-coordinator of the Implementer Group from 2012-13, Global Fund Board Member for the Eastern Europe Central Asia Constituency since 2012 and Member of the Global Fund Strategy, Investment, and Impact Committee (SIIC). She also served as the Chair of the Ad hoc group that led the search of the former Inspector General. 


PANCAP Director, Mr Dereck Springer attended the meeting and currently serves as the Chair of the Implementer's Block of the Global Fund.
